Rachel lives with her husband, two adult daughters and beloved Labrador in a small town near Bath, England. She is the author of 30 novels and has been published by Harlequin Mills & Boon, Kensington Books and others. Her latest series includes the Ladies of Carson Street trilogy and the Shop Girl series, both published with Aria Fiction. She also has several single titles with The Wild Rose Press. Her debut novel with Harpeth Road Press, Dressing The Countess, was released in May 2024.

My Review

Her Scandalous Suitor is a steamy historical fiction romance set in the 1800s.

Our two main characters, Emily and Will are both stuck in unenviable situation, Will seeking revenge against Nicholas, Emily quailing at the prospect of an unhappy forthcoming marriage to Nicholas, the son of her dying father’s dead business associate.

All is not well with Nicholas, and while Emily worries about her future, Will determines to exact his revenge against Nicholas, inevitably pulling Emily into his plot, and along the way, finding himself falling in love with her.

While Emily feels the same pull, she tries to do all she can to avoid him, but is to be prevented from doing so due to a series of events. And because Nicholas is not at all the man he pretends to be, as she begins to discover.

Taking readers to the underworld of Bath, Her Scandalous Suitor, addresses some of the pertinent issues of the day with regard to women and the hardships they face from the over mighty men who seemed to be able to get away with anything.

An engaging tale, with all the right touches for a steamy romance, including the promise of a happily ever after.

My Review

Victoria and Violet is a beautifully evoked story of Queen Victoria and her court, in the days before and during her marriage to Prince Albert. I won’t be alone in having read other books and watched film adaptations about the young Victoria, and Victoria and Violet really does capture the feel and mood of the royal court.

Violet is that most typical of women of the era, her life revolving around the will of another, only on this occasion, her mother, and her mother’s employer, Victoria’s mother, the Duchess of Kent. And we all know that’s not going to end well. Only, while she might be sent to spy on Queen Victoria, Victoria quickly strikes up a friendship with her maid and together, the two seem to be able to conquer just about anything the Duchess of Kent puts in their way.

James Greene too is not able to do what he wants, an expectant father, who was also a brutal father, expecting him home to run a prosperous estate, whereas James is keen to continue his work with Melbourne, the Prime Minister, and then Prince Albert himself.

This is a story filled with twists and turns. Will James and Violet fall in love? Will they be able to live their lives together? Or will his father, and her mother, force them apart?

This really is a delightful tale, well researched and very well grounded in the era and period. I’m really pleased I decided to read it:)
